Middle School Snapshot

Middle school is an exhilarating time in the life of a young person, a time when abilities are constantly explored and discovered. Perhaps no period of life is as charged with such tremendous intellectual, physical and emotional growth as the middle school years. Greenhills middle school program is designed to give students the support they need to comfortably navigate these years.

At the heart of our program is a committed team of teachers and administrators who know individual students well and who embrace the joys and challenges of working with this unique age group. At Greenhills, middle school teachers embrace the wonder, uncertainty and enthusiasm associated with young adolescence. Faculty and administrators provide a safe base from which students can enter into the greater autonomy of adulthood, a process that involves risk-taking, success and some failure.

Sixth graders are welcomed into their forum area by a caring and cohesive group of teachers solely responsible for instructing this grade. Students begin to undertake tasks calling for personal organization, critical thinking, individual creativity, independent and group work and good study habits.

In seventh and eighth grades, teachers continue to cultivate a nurturing environment in which students can meet increased expectations for academic and social responsibility. With growing confidence, students learn to take risks in the classroom, in the theater, on the playing field and during middle school assemblies.

Eighth graders depart middle school with a deeper awareness of their own abilities and unique gifts, prepared for the demands of our college-preparatory curriculum.
