Greenhills School Fact Sheet
Opened in 1968, Greenhills is an independent, non-denominational, coed, college preparatory school enrolling grades 6 through 12, that offers a challenging curriculum in a nurturing environment. The school is housed in a 130,000 square foot facility with 51 classrooms. Our fully automated library's online databases provide content from over 1,400 full-text periodicals from around the world.

Greenhills is located on a 30-acre campus with a second growth wooded area with trails, a stream, and a nature preserve.
- Approximately 500 students in grades 6-12 are enrolled at Greenhills School.
- 200+ students attend Middle School and 300+ students are in the Upper School.
- 100% of graduates attend college. The classes of 2002-2007 earned average scores of 665 (Math) and 653 (Critical Reading) on the SAT I and a Composite score of 29 on the ACT.
- More than 80% of each year's AP exam scores are 3 or higher.
- Greenhills School has the largest percentage of National Merit Semi-Finalists and AP Scholars of any school in Michigan.
- The student teacher ratio is 7:1. Average class size is 15 students.
- The school employs 62 full-time teachers and 8 part-time teachers.
- 46 teachers have advanced degrees, 10 having earned their PhD.
- 63% of Greenhills students are from Ann Arbor and 37% live elsewhere in southeastern Michigan, including Brighton, Dearborn, Dexter, Fenton, Northville, Plymouth, Saline, and Ypsilanti.
- 30% of Greenhills students self-identify as persons of color: 6% African American, 11% Asian American, 2% Hispanic American, 3% Middle Eastern, 7% multiracial. 1% of the student body are International students.
- In 2007, Greenhills School was awarded an Intel School of Distinction Award for having the best upper school science program in the country.
- The Fine and Performing Arts Department offers concerts, and theatrical productions and art gallery showings throughout the year. Events include: fall play, spring musical, annual senior Shakespeare performance, Middle School spring play, VooDoo Theatre Company (student-run troupe), Middle and Upper School band concerts, Middle and Upper School orchestra concerts, jazz band and combo performances, Middle and Upper School choir concerts, Middle and Upper School forensics tournaments, Fine Arts Showcase, and more.
- Activities and student organizations include, but are not limited to: Evergreen (literary magazine), The Alcove (student newspaper), Forward (yearbook), Amnesty International, Peer Counselors, Student Council, African American Focus, Multicultural Focus, Science Olympiad, Gryphon Club, Chess and Go Club, DDR Club, Debate Club, Ski Club, Student Mentors, Honor Committee, The Discourse, Gay-Straight Alliance, Service Learning Board, Improv Club, and more.
- Greenhills School is a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and offers the follow sports:
- Boysbaseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and track and field;
- Girlsbasketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball;
- Coedequestrian and swimming.
- Number 1-ranked athletic program in Class C two out of the past three years, as ranked by The Ann Arbor News.
- 2007-08 tuition for middle school students is $16,230 and for upper school students is $16,500. Nearly $953,000 in need-based financial aid was awarded to 19% of the student body in 2006-07. The average award was $9,323.
- Since 1993, more than $16,000,000 has been contributed to Greenhills' Annual Fund, Auction, Endowment and Capital Campaigns to support the school.
Greenhills School is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and Association of Independent Michigan Schools (AIMS).
