Earth Day News: Greenhills Earns Evergreen Green School Status

Ann Arbor

April 2009, Ally Hogikyan ’13 and teacher Martha Friedlander attended the Michigan Green Schools Awards Ceremony, where Greenhills School was named an official Michigan Green School and awarded “Evergreen” status.

To be dubbed a Green School, an institution must document that they have accomplished at least 10 of 20 “Points of Energy and Environmental Savings Activities”.

“Because we were able to document all of the Points of Energy and Environmental Savings Activities, we achieved the Michigan Green School’s highest ranking," Martha noted. “I am particularly proud of this accomplishment because we earned much of this honor through the programs we began putting in place long before we sat down to fill out our Michigan Green Schools application."

“Before going to the ceremony, Ally, Annika Fash-White ’13 and I posted ‘Turn out the Lights’ signs all around the building in all classrooms and offices.”

Greenhills will celebrate Earth Day on May 15th with a number of activities, including a discussion of our revamped recycling plan.
