Department Overview

The upper school computer science program addresses the competencies needed for a strong foundation in this continually evolving academic area. Building upon the information and technology skills acquired within the middle school curriculum, students who wish to understand the principles behind these skills can elect to take Computer Science, a year-long course offered in two discrete semesters. No prerequisites are needed for the course other than curiosity and commitment and students may elect to take this course at any grade level in the upper school. This program will assist students should they elect further study of computer science, information systems or engineering and is based upon guidelines suggested by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA). A model curriculum for computer science and the final report of the ACM K-12 Task Force Curriculum Committee can be read here.
