Greenhills School 11-12 Annual Fund - Making History

Greenhills School started making history on day one:

  •  From the hiring of renowned architect Alden B. Dow , who designed our landmark school with cement-block construction, grade level forums, clear stories and doors connecting classrooms directly to the world beyond their walls,
  •  to the 2003 launch of the school’s innovative, self-directed faculty professional development program,
  • the 2007 Intel Foundation School of Distinction Award for Greenhills’ upper school science program,
  • the 2010 honor of becoming the  first Michigan Green School in Ann Arbor ,
  •  and this year’s  introduction of the Big History Project , which links the school with Bill Gates' BGC3 initiative, Greenhills has operated ahead of the curve and set the pace.

Our founders had a clear vision for the school.  Greenhills would:

  •  have lockless lockers,
  • develop multiple ways for faculty to interact with students, strengthening the relationships through deepened understanding and mutual respect,
  •  recruit and retain the best possible faculty,
  • maintain small individual classes,
  • keep tuition as low as feasibly possible to allow the school to serve a broad socio-economic cross section of the community, and
  •  promote full participation in multiple activities on the part of all students—in athletics, the arts and a wealth of extra-curricular activities.

Our founders were aware, however, that keeping the curriculum current, hiring the best possible faculty and maintaining an intimate, familial atmosphere would depend on families’ willingness to participate in the philanthropic life of the school.  With a gap of $2,500 per student between tuition and the true cost of day-to-day operations, only a vibrant philanthropic program makes their historic vision possible.

As Greenhills prepares to graduate its 40th senior class, the success of its story continues to rest in your hearts and hands.   2011-12 Annual Campaign Co-Chairs Lynn Wooten and Jeffrey Post, Alumni Parent Chair Richard Theile and Alumni Chair Jack Bridges ’96 invite you to join us for a complimentary breakfast program:  Making History.   Your participation determines our present and lays a foundation for the future.
