Greenhills Hosts First-Ever Robotics League Meet
On Saturday, November 1, Greenhills hosted a Middle School FIRST Robotics League Meet. It was the first time in program history that Greenhills hosted a robotics competition on its campus, and a milestone moment in the school’s decade-long robotics journey.
Greenhills’ three middle school First Tech Challenge (FTC) teams joined 10 visiting teams to compete in this year’s challenge, FIRST DECODE. The east gym was transformed into a hub of innovation and teamwork, with students in grades 6 through 8 collaborating with alliance partners to strategize, code, and drive their robots to score points in fast-paced matches.
The event filled multiple spaces across campus: the east gym hosted the competition field, the trophy hall became “the pits,” where teams fine-tuned their robots with tools and laptops, and the west gym offered a practice field for testing new ideas. Spectators filled the stands, cheering on competitors as the spirit of collaboration and creativity took center stage.
“The weekend was only possible because of the 70-plus Greenhills upper school team members and robotics family volunteers who participated,” said Charles Dershimer, Greenhills Robotics Program Coordinator. “They were the key to making this event a success.”
The Greenhills teams will continue their season with league meets on November 11 and 24 before heading to the League Tournament in Saline on December 6. As the competition heats up, the teams are aiming high — and inviting supporters to join in the excitement, both in person and online, with their signature cheer: “3-2-1 — Go Lawnmowers!”
