2 Gryphon swimmers land post-season berths

IMG_0056The Gryphons’ last home swim meet went well this week, with two athletes qualifying for post-season competition.

The meet, held January 27 at Whitmore Lake, saw swimmers Naveen Fujii ’16 qualifying for states and Grant Kiefaber ’15 qualifying for the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association Meet, to be held this year on Feb. 14 at Eastern Michigan University’s Jones Natatorium.

To qualify for the MISCA meet, Kiefaber beat a seven-year-old Greenhills record in the 50 freestyle that was set by his brother, going 23:39 in his race. Fujii broke his own Greenhills record in the 100 meter breast stroke, which he set last year, by finishing at 1:03:00.

Greenhills fans showed up in force at the meet, cheering their team to an overall 40-30 victory over University Liggett.
