Greenhills’ founders envisioned a school where about 20 percent of students would receive tuition assistance, and the average amount would cover about half the cost of those students’ tuition. They knew that support would allow Greenhills to build an intentionally diverse learning community—gographically, racially, socioeconomically—that reflects the real world far beyond our campus.
Today, Greenhills continues to reach that high bar, with nearly a quarter of the student body receiving tuition assistance and the average amount totaling more than 50 percent. Nearly half of the families who participate in the variable tuition program pay less than $10,000 per year for tuition. Many more pay full tuition. All are valued members of our community.
More than $3 million in tuition assistance is awarded annually through our Variable Tuition Program and Evergreen Scholarship.
WHAT YOU PAY IS BASED ON WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD
Our Variable Tuition Program adjusts tuition based on each family’s unique financial situation. Awards are determined through a confidential, third-party analysis of income, assets, and expenses. Families who qualify pay a reduced tuition rate that fits their budget. Families who do not qualify—or who choose not to apply—pay full tuition.
Variable Tuition applications are separate from admission decisions and are renewed annually with updated information.
2026–2027 Tuition and Expenses
Tuition can be paid in full or in up to 12 monthly installments (April–March). Payments are adjusted for students who participate in the variable tuition program. There are also additional costs for class trips and materials for specific classes that all students don’t participate in, which may be up to $700 annually for middle school students and up to $1,000 for upper school students, and families purchase their own books. |

The Evergreen Scholarship
LEADERSHIP. EXCELLENCE. REPRESENTATION.
The Evergreen Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship available to underrepresented students of color (Black/African American or Latinx/Hispanic) who have demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, and involvement in extracurricular activities. Awards will vary and will be applied to the cost of tuition.

| Every eligible student who applies to Greenhills will automatically be considered for the Evergreen Scholarship as part of the normal admission process. |
| What criteria will you use to determine the recipients? |
| While no supplemental materials are required, recipients of the scholarship will have demonstrated strong academic and community engagement at their current institution(s). Recipients must be members of underrepresented students of color. |
| What does the scholarship cover? |
| This scholarship will go towards the cost of Greenhills School tuition, and may also provide funding for books, transportation, and other activities. |
| How many scholarships will be awarded? |
| The number of Evergreen scholarships awarded each year may shift depending on the number of qualified applicants. We anticipate that four to six students will typically receive the scholarship. |
| When will the recipients be determined? |
| Incoming students who receive the Evergreen Scholarship will be notified at the time of their acceptance to the School. |
How Independent Schools Like Greenhills Operate
Greenhills is an independent school, which means we don’t receive any state or federal funding—not for salaries, benefits, financial aid, or any other expenses. Instead, tuition accounts for more than 93 percent of the annual budget. That independent is what allows us to decide what to teach, how to teach, and what best serves our students and our mission.
