A Thoughtful, Individual ProcessThe college counseling experience is a relationship rooted in knowing each student deeply, guiding them with care, and helping them discover the right next step in their learning journey. We know that the college search can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to help. Our team of experienced counselors work closely with students and families, providing personalized guidance that reflects each student’s strengths, interests, and aspirations. We listen, we encourage, and we help students articulate who they are and what they hope to become. |

EMPOWERING STUDENTS TO APPROACH college with clarity, courage, and a sense of purpose
Our personalized college counseling program begins early, weaving seamlessly into students’ growth as learners and individuals. At Greenhills, this process is designed to be intentional, reflective, and confidence-building, ensuring students and families feel informed and supported at every step.
9th Grade
---
This is a time of fostering self-awareness, social connection, and the academic skills needed to thrive in upper school. As part of the school's academic program, students begin exploring their emerging identities as learners, laying the groundwork for the reflection that will guide the college process later on. Students learn about the significance of their academic records and begin looking ahead to what lies before them, and we invite families to meet with the college counseling office to discuss couse planning.
10th Grade
Students continue to reflect on their interests, in and out of the classroom, as they begin to consider what they hope to gain from college. We introduce them to standardized testing options and timelines, and encourage them to visit a variety of college campuses, in person or virtually, to begin building a sense of what environments feel right to them. Families gain access to Naviance and SCOIR, online resources that support the college search and application process, and participate in group seminars in the winter and spring that guide them through key steps in exploring college possibilities.

Students begin building college lists and preparing for applications, guided by their evolving sense of identity and goals. Individual meetings with counselors begin in November, providing personalized guidance and support. In the spring, students participate in Junior Seminars, small-group sessions that walk them through the college process from start to finish. Together, students and counselors create a standardized testing plan aligned with each student’s interests and prospective college choices, ensuring clarity and confidence as they move into senior year.

The focus shifts to finalizing the college search and applying with purpose and organization. From the summer through November 1, counselors work intensively with seniors to navigate applications, essays, and deadlines, ensuring that students feel supported and prepared. Weekend workshops provide dedicated time for essay writing and application completion. Ultimately, the result is young adults who are comfortable, confident, and ready to excel in college, with choices that fit who they are and who they are becoming.

Building a List that Fits
Choosing where to attend college is a big decision, and it should be based on finding the right fit school, not chasing prestige. We focus on helping students identify environments where they will thrive—academically, socially, athletically and personally—so that they continue to grow as curious, capable learners.
Students find scaffolded support at every step: refining their college lists, preparing for interviews, developing essays that capture their authentic voice, and navigating the financial aid process.

Decades of Success
Greenhills graduates attend a wide range of colleges and universities, from large research institutions to small liberal arts colleges, across the country and around the world. More importantly, they arrive ready to engage, prepared to contribute, and confident in themselves as learners.
