The record doesn’t tell the whole story of the Greenhills varsity baseball team’s season. A glance at the standings might suggest a difficult year for the Gryphons.

For the Greenhills girls tennis team, the past two weeks have felt less like a breakthrough and more like the arrival of something hard earned and long in the making. On May 9, the Gryphons won the Catholic High School League (CHSL) Bishop Division championship—the first league title in program history, which it split with perennial power Farmington Hills Mercy. 

Before the first whistle, before the first pass, before the first faceoff, there is a question that sits at the heart of the Greenhills boys lacrosse program: What are we really here to build? For Head Coach Jack Hill, the answer begins well beyond wins and losses.

After a nationwide search that drew nearly 100 accomplished candidates, Greenhills School is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Kocsis as its next director of athletics. Kocsis is an accomplished leader known for building exceptional programs while strengthening the fabric of school communities, and he brings more than 25 years of experience as a teacher, coach, and athletic director.

Good things take time. After a few seasons spent building patiently and deliberately, Greenhills girls varsity basketball is beginning to see the rewards of that work. This winter’s team is still young in spots, still learning how to close out tight games—but it’s also deeper, more connected, and more competitive than it has been in recent years.

Even after graduating a top slate of seniors and battling illness throughout key matches, the Greenhills boys varsity tennis team is once again proving why it’s one of the premier tennis programs in Michigan, and definitively the top team in Ann Arbor.

Something special is happening on the trails this fall at Greenhills. The boys and girls cross country teams are not just posting fast times, they’re setting a new standard for the program. With veteran leadership, promising newcomers, and a culture of support and hard work, both teams are enjoying their most successful seasons in years.

From the first whistle in August to the final week of the regular season, the Greenhills boys varsity soccer team has played with purpose, poise, and an unmistakable belief in their potential. Now, with the playoffs on the horizon and ranked 4th in the state, the Gryphons have put together one of the program’s most impressive seasons in recent memory.

The Greenhills Girls Golf team has its sights set firmly on the state finals, and each match this fall has brought them one step closer. With a focused mindset, a tight-knit group of players, and steady improvement across the board, the Gryphons are shaping into a team that could peak at just the right time. Their scores are dropping, their confidence is growing, and they’re showing flashes of the consistency it takes to compete at the highest level.

It’s about halfway through the girls volleyball season, and Greenhills’ varsity team is hitting its stride with a team full of young players, a program built around development, and a coach who is as focused on mindset as she is on mechanics.

While most teams rotate fresh legs onto the field every few minutes, the Greenhills boys lacrosse team did something extraordinary this season: it played entire games with only a couple of substitutes. With just a dozen players for much of the spring, the Gryphons faced off against deeper, more heavily staffed teams and showed they could remain competitive with stamina, smarts, and sheer force of will.

Rebuilding a varsity sports program takes heart, patience, and a whole lot of hustle, and the Greenhills girls softball team has all three. Now in the second year of its restart, the team is laying a strong foundation, fueled by enthusiasm, determination, and a love of the game. Ask head coach Caitlyn O’Neal how things are going, and she lights up.

With 10 straight wins, a top-10 state ranking, and a lineup led by college-bound seniors, the Greenhills varsity baseball team is in the midst of one of its most impressive seasons in recent memory. After reaching the state quarterfinals in 2024, the Gryphons returned this spring with higher expectations. And throughout the season they’ve been meeting, and often exceeding, every one.

A year after winning the state championship, the Greenhills varsity girls tennis team is back on the court, and arguably stronger than ever. With nearly every starter returning and an infusion of young talent, expectations for this season are sky-high. Head Coach Mark Randolph, now in his 29th year leading the program, isn’t shy about what’s possible.

After nine seniors graduated from the boys varsity basketball team last year, this season’s team is focused on gaining court experience, advancing ball skills, and persevering in a competitive league. Head Coach Jason Pickett is in his first year leading the team at Greenhills, and he’s excited about the strong foundation they’ve been building so far.

The girls basketball team finished the 2023-24 season feeling like the best was yet to come. The Gryphons had bested the previous year’s record, and they saw the improvement that came from an offseason spent training and conditioning. Now, with much of the 2024-25 season still left to play, the girls basketball team has once again improved on their season record and is feeling optimistic about the future.

The boys swim and dive team is off to a great start in what could be one of the best seasons in recent memory. Talented new additions to the roster, positive attitudes, and strong work ethic propelled the team to victory in its first three dual meets, and times continue to improve for swimmers across the board.
