The 2025 season was nothing short of remarkable for Greenhills’ Upper School program, team 5530, affectionately known as the Lawnmowers. From local competitions to the world stage, the Lawnmowers carved a path marked by technical excellence, steadfast teamwork, and a whole lot of lawnmower-themed spirit.
With a team make-up of seven juniors and seniors, and eight freshmen and sophomores, the Greenhills girls varsity soccer team is blending young talent, technical ability, veteran leadership, and a lot of heart to power their 2025 campaign. And so far, it’s working.
A year after winning the state championship, the Greenhills varsity girls tennis team is back on the court, and arguably stronger than ever. With nearly every starter returning and an infusion of young talent, expectations for this season are sky-high. Head Coach Mark Randolph, now in his 29th year leading the program, isn’t shy about what’s possible.
After a storybook run through the Michigan State Ethics Bowl and a dramatic victory over Chicago in the regional playoff, the Greenhills Blue Squad earned a coveted spot at the 2025 National High School Ethics Bowl, hosted by the Parr Center for Ethics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
By Mark Randolph, English Department Teacher. Perhaps the most meaningful award a teacher can receive is to be recognized by their student. At least that is my opinion. Strictly speaking this might be more of a reward, but given the paucity of anything approaching a public or professional honor for teachers, I will take what I can get and call it what I will. So, when my former student, good friend, and best editor that I know, Adam Plunkett (Class of 2005), called me up and invited me to share the stage with him for his book talk at Literati celebrating the release of his much-heralded critical biography of Robert Frost entitled Love and Need, I was bowled over.
And we do our very best to draw it out daily. On average, any two people have 99.9% identical DNA. That means what makes you you is what comes from that remaining 0.1%. At Greenhills, we've crafted our entire 6th- through 12th-grade experience (and our approach to teaching) to unleash the full power of that 0.1%. So you can go out into the world — uniquely and confidently you. A one-of-a-kind work of art with the ability to do anything you set your very distinctive brain to.
