Celebrating 50 Years of Title IX

“No person in the United States shall, based on sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance,”

On June 23, 1972 these words became law with the passage of Title IX. This landmark event had far-reaching impacts on gender equality, but nowhere has that impact been felt more than on athletics. Barriers were removed and opportunities have been created to allow female athletes to compete at greater levels and without discrimination. Leading up to the 50th anniversary of Title IX, we will be recognizing and celebrating the ways Title IX has impacted Greenhills with nine weekly stories from female Gryphons, and the marks they’ve made on our school’s history.
