Hiding in Plain Sight (Grades 6-8)
Right under our feet, and all around us, colors that can be used to dye clothing and more are growing on trees, on bushes, and in patches. In many cases, hiding in a red vegetable or the green skin of a fruit is a totally different and unexpected shade. Our ancestors made these discoveries through exploration and experimentation, and in the process revealed more than a spectrum that could be used to create art and designs of all kinds. What can we learn from their curiosity, hard work, and mistakes? What other colorful discoveries are waiting to be made? What else is hiding in plain sight?
