3 seniors named Junior Rotarians

Three Greenhills seniors were honored recently by the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor in a lunchtime program naming the students Junior Rotarians.

Laura Watson, Tristan Lopus, and Kelsey Snyder all took part in the lunchtime program, held at the Michigan Union. Each gave a brief talk to the assembled Rotarians highlighting their volunteer service in the community.

Snyder talked about helping lead the organization of events such as Greenhills’ annual “T. Wall/B-Ball” event.

“It’s nice to know my work was appreciated, even beyond the kids who enjoyed their day at Greenhills,” Snyder said.

Watson, whose main volunteer focus is helping the St. Andrew’s Breakfast Program, which has been serving the needy in Ann Arbor for more than 30 years.

In addition to commemorative plaques, all three seniors also were paired up with Rotary Club members with similar interests.

The Junior Rotarian program selects seniors from Ann Arbor high schools who have excellent academic records and experience with community service. The goal is to recognize promising seniors at local schools and to make them aware of the opportunities available to them through Rotary.

“We’re extremely proud of all three of our Junior Rotarians,” said 12th Grade Principal Bruce Zellers. “Their experience of service and academic excellence is sure to serve them well as they move forward in life.”
