Boys’ Soccer Advances to State Finals; Volleyball and Girls’ Cross Country Vy for District, State Titles

The Greenhills boys’ soccer team beat Hamtramck Frontier 4-2 Wednesday to advance to the Division 4 state finals.  The Gryphons will face Muskegon Western Michigan Christian in the state finals at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Pat Patterson Athletic Complex in Kentwood, Mich (See directions below).

Those who can’t make it to the game can watch the finals live on FoxSportsDetroit.com and MHSAA.tv. A live audio broadcast will be available at MHSAANetwork.com.

In other exciting athletic action, the volleyball team takes on Whitmore Lake in the district finals Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Whitmore Lake High School. In the district opener on Tuesday, the team defeated Willow Run in straight sets to advance to the finals.

Then on Saturday, the girls’ cross country team, after placing 3rd last weekend at regionals, will compete in the state finals at 11:00 at Michigan International Speedway (MIS).  In addition, cross country member Andrew Garton ’11 (also a member of the boys’ soccer team) qualified individually for the state meet after finishing 14th at regionals with a time of 18:58.

“This is a very exciting week for our athletes,” says athletic director Meg Seng. “We’re very proud of how hard they’ve all worked this season and wish them all the best. We strongly encourage everyone who can to come out and support them.”

Directions to Pat Patterson Athletic Complex from Ann Arbor:  Take I-96 west to M-6.  Take M-6 west to M-37 exit.  Take M-37 north to 44th St. Take 44th St. west to Crestwood Middle School. The school will be located on the south (left) side of the street. The Pat Patterson field is located behind the school.
