Boys' tennis team unveils 5th consecutive state championship banner It was a banner night Tuesday for the 2012 boys’ varsity tennis team as they unveiled their 5th straight state championship banner during half-time of the boys’ varsity basketball game against Taylor Baptist Park.
“We are extremely proud of all 20 of our state championship banners and the teams who earned those titles, but one sport stands out above the rest,” said athletic director Meg Seng in her opening remarks, noting that head coach Eric Gajar (with assistant coach Mark Randolph) has earned eight state tennis titles, an “outstanding feat in sport.”

It was then Coach Gajar’s turn to introduce his championship team assembled together on the court.

“This is a great group of guys who were outstanding to work with,” remarked Gajar. “They were ranked number one all year so they played with a bulls-eye on their backs for most of the season, but they came out ready to go and faced all challenges and worked hard, representing themselves and the school with class and competitive spirit. They really were great ambassadors for the school in the sport.”

Following the banner unveiling (which was executed by senior team captains Chang Che and Mithun Saha, pictured above), the boys’ basketball team (4-1), went on to have a banner night of their own, defeating Taylor Baptist Park 78-61. Senior Andrew Khouri led the team in scoring with 34 points, including six 3-pointers.
