Detroit Day: Entire school serves in the city

busterGreenhills students and faculty exchanged pencils for patience and hard work recently when they embarked on the second biennial Detroit Day. Students were matched by their interests and volunteered at 21 organizations across the city of Detroit on Friday. Seven of the organizations were schools.

“The day provides such a unique learning experience,” said Greenhills Service Learning Director Alyssa Friendly.  “From students working together across all grades, to exposure to organizations addressing a variety of needs, to reminding the entire community that there are many positive changes taking place in Detroit, it’s an awesome demonstration of our school’s mission and commitment to educating the whole child.”
Detroit Day complements other Greenhills initiatives that help students engage with Detroit: Motor City Saturdays, Alternative Spring Break, 6th and 11th grade class trips, and various class curricula.
