On Wednesday, September 28 nearly 40 alums, alumni parents, students, and current and former faculty gathered to remember former students Melissa Ernest ’01 and Julia Segall ’01.

Ernest was killed in a car accident in 2004 and Segall died in 2007 from complications with pneumonia.

Under the leadership of classmates Alicia Simmer ’01 and Caroline Kerr ’01, the Class of 2001 raised funds for a 10-year reunion gift to the school in memory of their classmates.

As a result, two new ornamental pear trees with memorial signs and a metal bench have been installed on the grass east of the tennis courts and west of the parking lot extension. Guests of thememorial event shoveled mulch onto the base of each newly planted tree and shared stories and fond memories of Julia and Melissa and their time at Greenhills School.

“It was a nice reminder for all of us that Greenhills is a special community – one where individuals really matter long after they leave the building,” said Greenhills alumni director Teresa Jong.
