Students to celebrate special Diversity & Community Day Feb. 5

Next Tuesday (Feb. 5) students will celebrate Diversity & Community Day with a variety of inspiring, educational activities. All 8th-12th graders will participate in small group sessions with diversity and service leaders from across southeast Michigan and watch documentaries, while 7th graders will take a tour led by the Detroit Historical Society and 6th graders will experience the Arab American National Museum.

“The purpose of this day is to enhance the commitments to promoting diversity that are already part of the fabric of the school’s academics and extracurricular activities,” says Kelly Williams, one of the Diversity & Community Day organizers. “In order to put into action what they learn next Tuesday, our entire school will participate in a service learning experience at various sites in Detroit on March 28. Together, these experiences will provide students with practical ways of considering the importance of diversity and community in their own lives.”
