Update! LA Times: “Bully” to be Released with No Rating

Thanks in large part to junior Katy Butler’s efforts, the MPAA has backed off its “R” rating of the movie Bully; the documentary will instead be released with no rating. In February Butler created a petition through change.org that to date has collected nearly 500,000 signatures, including celebrities Ellen Degeneres, Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Justin Bieber. Butler’s campaign took her to California earlier this month, when she delivered 200,000 signatures to the MPAA (and attended the Ellen Degeneres Show), as well as to Washington, D.C., where she talked with legislators on Capitol Hill. She recently received a GLAAD Award from Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and attended a private screening of Bully that was hosted by Meryl Streep.
