Boys Golf Wins 2022 Regional Championship

The Greenhills Boys Golf team battled intense competition — and equally intense 90-degree temps — and came out victorious as the 2022 MHSAA Boys Golf Division 3 Regional Champions. The Regional tournament, which took place at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, was the team’s sixth tournament win of the season, and propels the team into the State Championship.

“It was a nail-biter the whole day battling host Grosse Ile and Liggett for the title,” said Head Coach Michael Karr. “In the end our team played well and out-played the competition the last nine holes.”

The best score of the day was earned by Beau Brewer ’22, who shot a 73 to claim the individual title. Brewer finished three strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, who was also the 2021 individual champion and playing on his home course. This was Brewer’s third tournament title of the season.

In third place was Max Shulman ’24, who shot a 78 — just two strokes behind the second-place finisher and one of only three players to score in the 70s at the tournament. Cale Piedmonte-Lang ’22 was right behind him, tying for fourth place with his score of 80.

Brewer, Piedmonte-Lang, and Shulman were all named to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding play. Cameron Miller ’22 and Arjun Prabhakar ’23 both made big contributions to the team victory with their 90- and 88-stroke finishes.

The team now turns its attention to the State Finals taking place June 10 and 11 at The Fortress Golf Course in Frankenmuth. It’s an intense two-day tournament, with 18 holes of golf each day.
