Strong performances highlight Gryphon Tailgate

DSC_5678As if watching four Gryphons teams compete simultaneously wasn’t enough, this year’s Gryphon Tailgate brought in even more fans with the promise of hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, and … wait for it … a dunk tank.

The day included athletic contests featuring the field hockey, tennis, boys varsity soccer, and volleyball teams, all being held at the school. Greenhills tennis beat Saline, 8-1, while soccer defeated Howell Christian Home School, volleyball lost in five, and field hockey tied on a last-minute goal by Grosse Pointe Woods’ University Liggett.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the appearance of Gryph, who, based on his colorful and radiant new plumage, must have spent the summer preening.DSC_6261

A second popular feature, an icy cold dunk tank, claimed a number of victims, including Greenhills Spanish teacher Señor Kevin Olson, seen here being introduced to the business end of the tank.

The Gryphons Booster Club, which organized the event, estimates that as many as 50 families turned out for the event, which stretched from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Because two of their goals were increasing attendance at Greenhills athletic events and enhancing school spirit and community, their mission seems to have been accomplished. Thank you for coming out!
