Zellers Connects: Margaret Price ’87

I had the opportunity to chat with alum Margaret Price ’87 when she (and her dog Otis!) visited Greenhills on November 9, 2023. Price has degrees from Amherst College, the University of Michigan, and the University of Massachusetts. Her second book will be published in 2024. She arrived on the Greenhills campus after directing a disability workshop at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Current position: Associate Professor of English and Director of Disability Studies, Ohio State University. Happy spouse of Johnna Keller (architect and sustainability specialist) and co-parent to a large zoo of cats and dogs.

Path: In chronological order … B.A. in creative writing; freelance journalist; secretarial work; advertising copywriter; M.F.A.; adjunct instructor; line worker at a salsa factory; more secretarial work; more adjuncting; Ph.D.; professor.

What Greenhills contributed: Teachers and coaches who believed in me—especially when I didn’t believe in myself. It was an irreplaceable experience to have my intellect and creative abilities respected and nurtured. I have to give a shout-out to John Ramsburgh ‘87 as the smartest, kindest, and most patient Evergreen co-editor ever … especially that week when I pressed “reformat disk.”
