New year, new heads, and new lunch options all happening at Greenhills

Exciting changes are afoot at Greenhills as the school year gets underway, with a tasty and nutritious new lunch program in place, along with key changes in the school’s leadership team as returning Head of School Peter Fayroian and new Head of Upper School Quincy McLaughlin take the reins.

The lunch program, established in partnership with Plum Market subsidiary PlumSmart, makes its home in our thoughtfully upgraded kitchen and dining room space. Construction of the space began last spring and finished up just in time for school.

The results are impressive, as the PlumSmart kitchen team have been producing delicious meals for several days now using their trademark locally-sourced organic ingredients, where possible, and all-natural proteins and other locally-sourced products. As a bonus, all the tableware and even the utensils are compostable.

The results make it easy to see why PlumSmart provides the lunch program at peer schools such as Detroit Country Day and Grosse Pointe Academy as well as corporate and higher educational venues, including Penske Corporation, Detroit Metropolitan Airport, the University of Michigan and Oakland University. The additions to the school’s leadership team are also cause for excitement this fall. Fayroian is familiar to many Greenhills families, of course, as he led Greenhills for several years beginning in 2005 before becoming head at Northfield Mount Hermon in Massachusetts, one of the largest and most respected boarding schools on the east coast.

Fayroian said his return to Michigan in general and Greenhills in particular leaves him energized and eager to continue shepherding the school into the future.

“I’ve returned to a school that has continued to be the best version of itself,” he said. “While I may have been away from the building these past six years, I continued to be a member of the Greenhills family, so I have the distinct pleasure of being as proud of what this school has accomplished as I am excited to help us accomplish even more.”

In taking over the upper school McLaughlin, who comes to Greenhills from her role as a senior administrator at Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, is set to continue a distinguished administrative career.

“I knew Quincy as one of the most respected educational leaders on the east coast,” Fayroian said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Greenhills as head of upper school.”
