WEEK-LONG ROBOTICS CAMPS AT GREENHILLSWeek 1: July 15 – 19  |  Week 2: July 22 – 26

Your child is invited to experience FIRST Robotics at Greenhills. Campers will explore and work with the Greenhills’ FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) materials to learn more about designing, programming, and operating robots while competing in a summer mini-challenge.

Guided by teacher-coaches and high school mentors, campers will develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while experiencing the value of being curious, innovative, creative problem solvers, and a collaborative member of a team. Campers will earn badges in leadership, coding, mechanical structures, and electrical systems through games, workshops, hands-on activities, and mini-design challenges carried out each day.

Families can register for either one of the two week-long camps. Both weeks of camp are identical and families are asked to only register for one, to allow as many students as possible to participate.

No experience necessary

Campers need not have any prior experience with robotics. The camp's mission is to inspire and engage rising 6th graders at Greenhills so they become more excited about getting involved in the schools’ many STEM activities.

'Coopertition' tournament

On the final afternoon of each week's camp, the campers will participate in a ‘coopertition’ tournament to showcase their robotic creations. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend this event to observe and cheer!

Run by award-winning robotics coaches and Greenhills teachers.

This camp is led by Charles Dershimer and Jeremy Green―two experienced STEM teachers who also run the award-winning robotics clubs at Greenhills. They will be joined by several student members of the middle school and upper school robotics team

The camp is only open to incoming Greenhills 6th grade students.

Families can register for either one of the two week-long camps. Both weeks of camp are identical and families are asked to only register for one, to allow as many students as possible to participate.

CAMP FAQ

  1. Does my child need to have any robotics experience?

None needed. This camp is designed to support curiosity, creativity and confidence with using technology and robots. In addition to getting experiences with technology, students will practice team and leadership skills through games and workshops.

  2. Will my child need to bring any technology with them?

We will provide the technology and tools needed to construct and run FIRST Tech Challenge robots and code the control systems.

  3. Will my child need to buy anything for this camp that comes home with them?

The robots will stay with Greenhills, but if your child enjoys the experience they can join the Middle School robotics club in the early fall!

  4. Is my child expected to attend every day of the camp?

Each day will be a mix of something new and building on something from the previous day, so missing some of the camp is fine. Campers can always get more robotics by joining the Greenhills middle school robotics club in the fall!

  5. Will my child be inside all day?

Students will get outside to participate in games that support, creative thinking, working on a team, and leading others―and of course having fun!
