MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHER – ONE SEMESTER LEAVE REPLACEMENT/FMLA

The Fine and Performing Arts Department seeks a qualified and innovative Music teacher for a leave replacement.

The deparment seeks a colleague who is delighted by adolescents and middle school students particularly, and who brings joy to choral, instrumental and general music instruction.

The primary responsibilities include providing appropriate learning environments for students in grades 6 – 8. Greenhills music teachers value creative expression, experimentation, and reflection. Candidates should have an interest in teaching highly motivated students in a school that values fostering strong relationships and community.

  • Teach four sections of music courses: two instrumental, two choral.
  • Coach students in vocal and instrumental technique.
  • Run ensemble rehearsals and, if applicable, serve as an accompanist.
  • Participate in advising and co-curricular programs. 
  • Create inclusive, effective, and curious classroom environments.
  • Attend regular department, faculty, and other meetings.
  • Act as a role model in maintaining appropriate standards of care for students.
  • Maintain healthy boundaries in student and professional relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Functional piano skills desired.
  • B.A. degree required; master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. 
  • Several years of proven experience working with middle and/or secondary students, ideally teaching, is preferred. 
  • Enthusiastic interest in teaching and mentoring middle school students.
  • The ideal candidate will be:
    • a student-centered educator, skilled in fostering persistent problem solving,
    • knowledgeable about adolescents’ intellectual, social, and emotional development and willing to positively greet the challenges and opportunities they present,
    • a professional oral and written communicator,
    • eager to work collaboratively with colleagues on curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessments.
  • Work is conducted primarily in a classroom and school environment
  • May require extended time outside of the school day for musical concerts/events
  • Greenhills School property is a tobacco-free environment.

Compensation: Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience and education level, and includes lunch when school is in session.
