2011 McDowell Writing Award Winners Announced

The winners of 2011 McDowell Writing Awards were announced this morning at a special all-school assembly. Eleven students won top honors in the following five writing categories: Essay, Journalism, Poetry, Playwriting and Fiction.

“We had over 1,000 pages of writing submitted this year!” says Greenhills English teacher Chris Erickson. “We have a strong community of writers and it is evidenced in the winning entries.”

The Greenhills community is invited to hear all the winners present their prize-winning works at the McDowell Writing Awards Showcase Tuesday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m.

“The Showcase is a great opportunity to hear the fresh new voices developing here at Greenhills,” says Erickson.

The McDowell program was established in 2001 to encourage excellence in writing. Named after Greenhills’ third head of school, the program is supported by the David McDowell Fund.
