Jonathan Schwartz selected as next head of middle school

imgresGreenhills English teacher Jonathan Schwartz has been appointed the new head of middle school, beginning July 1.

“Jonathan brings great enthusiasm and proven skills as an educator,” says head of school Carl Pelofsky. “His dynamic teaching style, quick and warm wit, and sensitivity to diversity in child development are all valuable assets that he brings to this role.”

Schwartz emerged from a highly competitive field of 75 qualified candidates, 19 of whom received a full review from the Greenhills internal search committee. From that group of 19, eight were interviewed in our semi-final round, and four ultimately spent a full day on campus with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators.

A graduate of Wesleyan University, Schwartz earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College and holds a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from University of Michigan. Prior to his arrival at Greenhills, he worked with children and families in a variety of educational settings, both in Ann Arbor and on the East Coast.

In addition to teaching sixth grade English, Schwartz works with upper school and middle school students on the school newspaper, The Alcove, and coaches the middle school track team.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to have been selected as Greenhills’ next head of middle school,” says Schwartz. “I look forward to fostering a collaborative team that supports caring, creativity, and academic excellence as we work together to provide our students with the best possible middle school experience. I can’t wait to get started.”
