National High School Mock Election Picks Obama

Greenhills upper school students recently took part in a nationwide mock presidential election called VOTES (Voting Opportunities for Teenagers in Every State). Yesterday the sponsoring school, Northfield Mount Hermon

(a boarding school in western Massachusetts), announced that the votes have been tallied and Barack Obama won 50.2% to Romney’s 41.2%.

More than 130 schools participated in VOTES 2012– at least one public and private school from each state and the District of Columbia — for a total of more than 54,000 votes.  Greenhills was invited to participate along with Cranbrook, which is Mitt Romney’s high school.

“It was very exciting and a real honor to be selected to participate in VOTES 2012,” says head of upper school Cathy Renaud.  “According to NMH, the VOTES election has accurately picked five out of the past six elections. I guess we’ll have to wait and see about this one until tomorrow night.”
